How to Authorise TNZ to Manage Your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)

Learn how to create a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA), verify your phone number, and authorise TNZ as your messaging provider via Meta Business Suite.

To begin sending WhatsApp Messages through TNZ, you must first establish a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) and authorise TNZ as your technical provider.

This process ensures your messaging remains compliant with Meta's official policies while giving TNZ the necessary permissions send WhatsApp messages on your behalf.

Step 1: Log Into Your Meta Business Account

Your organisation must have a Meta Business Portfolio (formerly known as a Business Manager account).

  1. Go to business.facebook.com and sign in with your Facebook credentials.
  2. If you do not have an account, click Create Account and enter your legal Business Name, your name, and your work email address.
Note: Meta may require Business Verification when creating an account. This involves uploading documents (such as business registration or utility bills) to prove your entity's legitimacy. While not always required immediately, it is necessary to increase messaging limits.

Step 2: Authorise TNZ To Set Up My WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)

The WABA (WhatsApp Business Account) serves as the container for your phone numbers and message templates.

If you would like TNZ to manage your WhatsApp Business Account on your behalf:

  1. In Meta Business Settings, navigate to Settings Business Info.
  2. Locate your Business Portfolio ID (typically 15 digits long).
  3. Provide your TNZ representative with:
    - Your Business Portfolio ID.
    - Your Preferred WhatsApp Display Name (e.g. "Rob's Trinkets").
    - Your Business Industry (e.g. "Automotive" or "Restaurant", etc).
  4. Your TNZ representative will activate your WhatsApp Business Account. To approve this change, in Meta Business Settings, navigate to Settings  Requests and approve the new WhatsApp Business request.

Alternative: Set Up My Own WhatsApp Business Account

If you prefer to retain control and self-manage your own WhatsApp Business Account and Templates:

Step 1: Create Your WhatsApp Business Account

  1. In Meta Business Settings, navigate to Settings Accounts WhatsApp Accounts.
  2. If you do not have a WhatsApp Account, click Add Create a new WhatsApp Business Account.
  3. Set your Account Name (e.g. "My Company Ltd"), Timezone, and Currency.

Step 2: Add Your Phone Number

  • The phone number will display under your Meta/WhatsApp account (visible by users) as the sender of messages. Avoid using personal phone numbers.
  • The number cannot be currently active on the standard WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business mobile apps. If the number is currently in use on an app, you must delete the account within the app settings first.
  • You may use a telephone number (such as a landline number) and verify this using a Meta telephone verification call.
  • TNZ can optionally provide you with a number to use.

Step 3: Verify Your Phone Number

Meta will verify the number with a verification code. This can optionally be sent as an SMS or Voice call.

Enter the 6-digit code sent by Meta to finalise the connection.

Step 4: Authorise TNZ as your WhatsApp Business Partner

  1. In Meta Business Settings, navigate to Settings Accounts WhatsApp Accounts.
  2. Select your WhatsApp Account, then click Assign partner and enter the TNZ Business Manager ID: 110913722919929
  3. Select Full control (preferred) or alternatively, these are the minimal required access options:

    Troubleshooting & Common Rejections

When creating a WhatsApp Business Account, Meta will verify your business and settings. They may reject your application - these are the common rejection reasons:

    Reason Explanation
Display Name Rejected Ensure your name isn't "all caps" (unless it's an acronym) and doesn't include taglines like "Best Prices." It must clearly represent your business. Good examples would be "ABC Ltd" or "ABC Alerts".
Template Rejection Meta rejects templates that appear overly promotional (spammy), or don't match their category (e.g. a Marketing template marked as Utility) or have formatting errors in the variables.
Number Already in Use You must fully decommission the number from the consumer WhatsApp app before it can be used on the Business Platform, or request that TNZ provide you with a new number.
