Unsubscribe Option for SMS Messages

Adding and managing opt-out/unsubscribe requests

Introduction

Ensuring an opt-out option is included in every broadcast SMS message is essential, especially for promotional content.

There are two common ways to provide recipients with an easy way to unsubscribe:

  • Reply via text – Include a message such as "Reply STOP to OptOut." The recipient can simply reply with "STOP" to be removed.
  • Clickable link – Use the [[STOP]] command to insert an opt-out link, e.g., "Click [[STOP]] to OptOut."

If a message is sent to a mobile number that has opted out, your SMS will fail with the result "Destination is blacklisted," and you will not be charged.

Automated Opt-Outs

TNZ's SMS service features an automated unsubscribe system.

If an SMS is received that begins any of the below keywords, the sender's mobile number will automatically be added to your Dashboard Opt-Out List.

STOP
OPTOUT
OPT OUT
UNSUBSCRIBE

You can review your opt-out list anytime under Dashboard Opt-Out List.

Manual Opt-Outs

If needed, you can manually add numbers to your opt-out list:

Use the Dashboard Opt-Out List tool to enter a mobile number.

Mobile Device Blocking

In addition to opting out, recipients may block your SMS sending number directly on their mobile device.

Blocked conversations can be viewed within the messaging settings on the iOS or Android device.
