TFone VoIP Number Configuration

Below are a few hints to consider when configuring your TFone VoIP Number:

A Broadband Internet Connection

We recommend that you use a capable internet connection (ADSL / Fibre / UNS) as it is the primary path for your phone calls. Should this become overloaded, you may miss calls and call quality will drop significantly.

TFone VoIP Numbers   Inbound VoIP / SIP Number

TFone customers can order as many numbers as they wish. These can be billed under the same account, but set up to the customer's specifications.
Any TFone VoIP Number can be used to directly connect a softphone, IP Phone, ATA, existing IP PBX or TFone Manager.
With a TFone Manager, customers can have numbers tied to specific Call Groups, giving far more control over call routing (some other IP PBXs may offer similar functionality.)

Additional Lines   Concurrent Calls

Additional Lines can be purchased with any TFone VoIP Number to enable simultanous calling over a single number. Keep in mind that you will need a sufficient level of internet bandwidth to retain high call quality.
For customers with multiple TFone VoIP Numbers, Additional Lines are allocated exclusively to each number. The first number could have 4 Additional Lines, the second number could have 1 Additional Line, etc.

Connecting to a TFone VoIP Number   Softphone, IP Phone, ATA, IP PBX or TFone Manager

With every individual TFone VoIP Number, we will supply a unique username and password. This username and password is used to authenticate your VoIP / SIP device with our TFone servers, allowing the device to make and receive calls on our network.
The unique username typically resembles your TFone VoIP Number. For example, the username for +64-9-111-2222 would be 6491112222.
Passwords can be completely random and changed at any time by logging into the Web Portal.

  • Softphones are computer applications that operate on any computer with speakers and a microphone (a headset is recommended for quality).
    • Direct Connection:
If you're using a TFone VoIP Number connecting directly to our TFone servers (no IP PBX or TFone Manager), simply input your supplied Username and Password into the SIP Account Settings section of your chosen softphone.
The Domain section should be tnz.co.nz or 202.180.114.235.
    • With IP PBX/TFone Manager:
If you're using a TFone VoIP Number connecting to an existing IP PBX or TFone Manager, simply input your allocated Extension Username and Password into the SIP Account Settings section of your chosen softphone.
The Domain section should be your TFone Manager or existing IP PBX's IP Address.

  • IP Phones are normal desk telephones that run over the internet in the same way as a computer.
    • Direct Connection:
If you're using a TFone VoIP Number connecting directly to our TFone servers (no IP PBX or TFone Manager), simply input your supplied Username and Password into the SIP Account Settings section of your chosen IP Phone.
The Domain section should be sip.tnz.co.nz or 202.180.114.235.
    • With IP PBX/TFone Manager:
If you're using a TFone VoIP Number connecting to an existing IP PBX or TFone Manager, simply input your allocated Extension Username and Password into the SIP Account Settings section of your chosen IP Phone.
The Domain section should be your TFone Manager or existing IP PBX's IP Address.

  • ATAs are "Analogue Telephone Adaptors" that are designed to convert standard PSTN telephones into IP Phones. The TFone ATA is a pre-configured device, ready for the TFone service.
    • Direct Connection:
If you're using an existing ATA connecting directly to our TFone servers (no IP PBX or TFone Manager), simply input your supplied Username and Password into the SIP Account Settings section of your ATA device.
The Domain section should be sip.tnz.co.nz or 202.180.114.235.
    • With IP PBX/TFone Manager:
If you're using a TFone VoIP Number connecting to an existing IP PBX or TFone Manager, simply input your allocated Extension Username and Password into the SIP Account Settings section of your ATA device.
The Domain section should be your TFone Manager or existing IP PBX's IP Address.

  • Existing PSTN PBXs are hardware based devices that manage calling for corporations using traditional POTS or CENTREX phone lines.
    • To configure your existing PSTN PBX with a TFone VoIP Number, use a TFone ATA. The ATA sits before the incoming POTS or CENTREX lines as a full PSTN line replacement.

  • IP PBXs are either software or hardware based devices that manage calling for corporations. TFone supports a wide range of IP PBXs without any restrictions or additional charges.
    • To configure your IP PBX with a TFone VoIP Number, use your supplied Username and Password (each TFone VoIP Number is a separate registration on your IP PBX).
The Domain section should be tnz.co.nz or 202.180.114.235.
If your IP PBX does not support SRV, use sip.tnz.co.nz.

  • TFone Manager is TFone's premium IP PBX, designed to work with little additional configuration.
Every new TFone Manager gets pre-configured before it is shipped to you. Simply plug 'n' play!
If you wish to add additional TFone VoIP Numbers, simply log into the Web Interface of your TFone Manager and select the TFone VoIP Numbers tab.
